Obviously a Christian themed Album/Movie may not sit well with DEMOCRATS/JEWS/NON-CHRISTIANS/LGBTQ etc...However these groups comprise the VAST majority of Music & Film Critics. And I think they are being VERY dishonest in their biased reviews of these Exceptional works of Art by Kanye. Jesus is King is an AMAZING Album, 10 Stars

This is by far the most uplifting album of 2019 I've heard, filling the cultural gap that exists in today's society and music industry where every record almost sounds the same as the other one in advancement of evil. Well done Kanye, you getting a Grammy plus a BET for this one.

I was disappointed with this album at first, but over time it began to grow on me. After being out for a few months, I love this album. It very much reminds me of 808s in a lot of ways, and I think in 5 to 10 years people will look back and give this album the praise it deserves. My thoughts:

    - Selah, Follow God, Closed on Sunday, Hands on & Use This Gospel are all great tracks
    - the into and interlude tracks are enjoyable
-"On God" is my favorite song that came out this year, excluding music that was leaked.
-"Everything We Need" is good, but not as good as the XXXTENTACION version that was on the Yandhi bootleg
-"Water" is a good song but I do find Kanyes verse on this track to be lazy
    - Ant Clemons contributions to the album were great
    - The album is rather short, and I do think certain other songs from Yandhi could have been included

    8.75-9/10
I would say it is the 6th best out of Kanye's solo albums.

Overall, the production is really solid and the gospel aesthetic is very nicely implemented throughout the record. There are tracks like Use this Gospel and Everything We Need that use dense autotune vocal harmonies in their choruses that sound other-worldly and honestly just straight up beautiful. Other tracks like Follow God and God Is use Kanye's signature vocal sampling to great effect, bringing us a Watch The Throne-type banger and an endearing, soulful ballad respectively on the same record. The tracklist is quite diverse, going from quaint Sunday Service jam sessions to grand cinematic gospel bangers all in a short 27 minute runtime. The cohesion of the album's tracklist is held together by a well-executed gospel aesthetic and great Kanye production, albeit with a few hiccups along the way.

The one big major drawback is that the transition out of secular music seems to have hindered Kanye's writing ability on this record a bit. Tracks like Closed on Sunday and On God lack the wit and punch of Kanye's usual writing, instead almost sounding a bit like he's just trolling with the lyrics. It's no poopity scoop but it's getting there. There are also times where tracks lack the beefy mixing that is to be expected on a Kanye record, rather sounding quite unimpactful and lackluster especially in the low end of the mix. Also, a small gripe that is quite common among listeners is the brevity of Jesus Is Lord, where the track seems to end as it starts to ramp up towards what would have been an absolutely amazing track (Watch the JIK film for the full version). All in all, these flaws do hinder the album from becoming great, but it is still nonetheless a good, solid record.

I know this review is in the yellow territory, but I count this as a good review. Yes, it’s not quite a fantastic album, but it is an enormous step forward from ye. I am impressed that Kanye West came out with this album, it must’ve not been easy to create something so different from what he has created in the past. I really like the message that this album gives its listeners, and hopefully it has influenced others to follow in the footsteps of West. That being said, JESUS IS KING is still plagued by generic drum machines and random noises here and there, though the explicit content is gone, thankfully. Plus, I’m not sure if the purpose of Closed On Sunday was to get me to laugh, but if so it succeeded. I hope that Kanye continues on this path, because if so, we can expect some amazing albums soon. Chick Fil-a! Highlights (there actually are some this time!): Every Hour, Selah, and Jesus Is Lord.

Jesus is King is a short Christian rap journey, with his old style from College Dropout and Late Registration; and also from unreleased album Yandhi. His old beats have been ridiculously altered to (it seems like to) match the quality of the album. But the album has some up's and low's. Half of the album holds up well and the other one doesn't. It peaks at On God, with the slickest beat in this album, then it goes downhill from Everything We Need. He removed every good thing about the song. And then the other albums come, with the same story as Everything We Need had. Overall the album is a good listen Expand

Seeing such questioning makes me reconsider humanity positively. The artist faced (and successfully triumph) the idea to work in a totally different way than he usually does. He managed to release an album whose subjects and foundations are closer to some part of his personality. In this way, 'Jesus Is King' is a powerful promise and a deep record. Beats and rhythms vary a lot. Production is awesome. There are some interesting featured artists who bring even more music that is different from what Kanye does. Saxophone solo in 'Use This Gospel' from Kenny G is absolutely gorgeous and a good example for that.

However in the facts we are far from all I previously described as we realize Kanye speaks about Jesus only to draw parallels between their respective lives and to try to identify himself as God's son. Almost all tracks sounds like unfinished drafts. It feels like Kanye couldn't involve himself to his core while creating this project. Some songs may be repetitve sometimes. Not saying nonsense and rudeness must have been frighteningly difficult for Kanye.

It honestly sounds like he's freestyling on a Youtube "Kanye Type Beat" and the track feels like a quick catchy demo that would have otherwise been scrapped. On God has a terrific beat, and Kanye definitely finds his footing on the track, however the lyricism is extremely surface level and overall the track just isn't great, it's just pretty good. My final positive note is the opener, Every Hour, it's very good but because of the lack of progression or percussion it feels about a minute too long. Or as if he is changing himself to try to bring in an audience that is typically not in order to redeem himself from his rough public persona of the last few years.

Well admittedly there is some nice production and catchy vocals -Example being “Closed on Sunday”- It does not redeem this marred album, From the fact the vocals do not mesh well with the production. The Features feeling as if they are conforming to the idolization of the religion Ye thinks he’s found Pusha T feeling the most out of place. Ye’s Persona presented to us feeling forced, lacking of spirituality, and instead showing the egotism of His eccentrically brash and uncoordinated nature.

The forgettable and often times short songs that probably could not be converted to church choirs even if people wanted to, since this is essentially an album about Kanye and Not “God”.
The fundamentals of the album are broken and flawed and as for it being a “Turning point” in Kanye’s career it feels bland, and Uninspired, as if it was brought up in a think tank to appeal to Boomers.
And added with the Condemnation of Rap music leading up to the album release which shows his lack of gratitude to the art form allowing him to exist in the life he has achieved.

It also isn't mixed very well and contains some very cheesy lyrics such the infamous Closed On Sunday hook. Despite this, there are high points on the album. God Is is a beautiful song with a great instrumental and I actually like how Kanye strains his voice on the song. Use This Gospel brings us the legendary duo Clipse and they both have great verses (I prefer No Malice's here). Follow God and Selah are high points as well. Wow, I would love this album if it wasn't so distinctly about Christianity. Definitely not a record I'll be coming back to very often.

THAT SAID, the skill in production and lyricism here is what WILL bring me back on that rare occasion. Kanye is undeniable as usual. The Clipse feature is great too.

Hands On sticks out as an early favorite track. Feels particularly honest with Kanye laying out his feelings about not belonging. Closed On Sunday is just silly.

first i was like whaaaa , wasnt he that dude who said , your such a freaking brooo i love it,"
then i decided to give this dude and his album a chance , i mean everyone should have a chance to convert to any religion they want and speak theyre hearts content and say and preach what they want.
im not a christian , but i bealive in god , but ill just critisize this album with its art , not religious stuff.

unlike his old albums , this album has a lesser 'Hip Hop' tune . it didnt had the gangish stuff , no gang or party beats , no "All day" or "Monster" . "Follow god" had a Hip Hop sound but it lacked rapping skills, not just this track , the whole album exept "Hands on" (which is the albums best track in my opinion) suffers on corny lyrics . Seriously now Mr west , "your my chick Fil A" ???? :/
the production was good , but it wasnt kanye , it lacked kanye's crazy samples , crazy instrumentals.

MR west singing wasnt bad in tracks like , use this gospel, and he was spitting religious facts at "Hands on"

the feautures werent that awesome , exept the dude in "Hands on" and Pusha T

this isnt the same Kanye anymore. you have to be a huge fan of Ye to enjoy this project. its too damn gospel-ish for me, he still put enough hip hop in it to be listened to. he needs to focus on his mental health at this point.

"JESUS IS KING" once again splits fans of Kanye roughly down the middle. As I look back on this album, I see myself more in favor of his creative direction with the project. It's no secret that, "everybody wanted Yandhi" but truthfully, I respect what Kanye repurposed it into. Instead of repeating himself with essentially a Yeezus 2, Kanye created the direct opposite to Yeezus. Yeezus"JESUS IS KING" once again splits fans of Kanye roughly down the middle. Yeezus and JIK are opposites of one another which I find far more satisfying than if Yhandi were to come out and just repeat Kanye's cycle of sin. The journey from Yeezus to JIK closely resembles Dante's epic, The Divine Comedy. But enough about the message of JIK; how does it sound? Pretty mixed if we're being honest. "Every Hour" is a great start to the album, letting us know this is going to be the most gospel-related album Kanye's released yet. Selah, Follow God, and Use This Gospel are the clear highlights of this album. Top tier without a doubt. I very much enjoyed Everything We Need, God Is, and On God as well. They aren't standouts but I loved them sure enough. But Closed On Sunday, Water, Hands On, and Jesus Is Lord are all...alright. I admittedly have a bias in favor of all of Kanye's work so I tend to still like the songs that typically, I would think as "okay." Objectively though, these tracks could have been much more. Closed On Sunday has a creepy beginning and some interesting lines about a fast food chain which I thought to be an interesting take. Water was 'right but c'mon Kanye, you could've put a bit more mph into that verse my guy. Hands On is similarly spooky like Closed On Sunday and has a nice outro. My final note is that the last track should've just been an instrumental. I give JIK a 7/10 as my objective score. I honestly enjoy every track even with the imperfections because I'm invested in the message Ye is trying to convey with this album. But when looking at this LP more objectively and critically, I see that how Kanye could have swapped some of the tracks on this thing or just add more to it.

P.s. I have not watched the film.

If you love Jesus, you will love this album, but if you don't love Jesus, you won't love this album as much as those who love Him. A very complicated and strange thesis, but true. Kanye introduces us to his love for God. She's making an album for HIM. If I had to name my favorite songs, they would be "God Is," "On God," "Water," "Follow God," "Everything We Need" and "Closed on Sunday."

Lackluster album with a singular theme of Christianity. An album that very much feels “by Christians for Christians” - which would not be an issue if the music itself was consistently good. Yet the album features only two good songs with “follow god” and “closed on Sunday” - the rest of the album is truly forgettable.

The fact he’s stated he’s no longer making secular music from here on in means it’s on us as the listener to bare the brunt of the fact before going into the project. Inspiring stuff; admittedly not his best work by any means but when you’ve set the bar as high as this man has, it’s going to be hard to top itS Let’s just say this work, has a man reevaluating his faith.

Jesus Is King is an over-hated and an over judged album. It is always a work in progress such as the man himself and this album is a reflection on our current state of faith and life in modern-day America.

There are bright and solid songs such as Every Hour, Selah, Follow God, Use This Gospel, God Is, Hands On, Closed on Sunday and On God. The problem was that people have expected an album that was fully drenched in gospel worship or a Kanye that was like of old, poetic and scrutinizing as he was on Jesus Walks.

Jesus Is King is not a Christian album or a gospel entry point. It is his reflection on mentality, mental health, Christ and his thoughts on new born salvation. You cannot expect a sermon from a sheperd who hasn't found sheep. You can't expect a Christian College Dropout from a new born man. That is what Jesus Is King is about. It's a restart, a refresh button and an expert defense against his past behaviour that was criminal.

You can't expect the red hate Kanye to be here. The Donald Trump supporter and supposed coon. This is his redemption arc and the production proves to be still overarched and filled with mediocre work. I admit, the music is not as good as before. Closed On Sunday has awful Chic Fillet lines, Follow God is too bare and short, Everything We Need is foul and Water is his worst song ever. However, even though its over hyped, Use This Gospel has a nice outro break and God Is at least is passionate?

On God has some fierce work and its the best production here apart from Jesus Lord which is bright with trumpets but it's only a minute long. Closed On Sunday has the best last two minutes or so when the beeps of robotic monotone screams its futuristic blends of audio genius. Kanye is at its most form when he blends Yeezus sounds polished in gospel harmony. It's a wholesome road that gets the 9 out of 10 from me.

Overall, Hands On proves to be another highlight with dark Greek like apocalyptic production of blending and I say that Jesus Is King is an amazing work of art. It's short, underwhelming but I am happy and proud to see a Christian born again through the faith and work of Jesus.

His reunion with frequent collaborators belies a rich history of discovering and championing new voices. This ostensible distance from which Kanye preaches reveals King’s true tension: Kanye, like Kendrick on DAMN., is asking for our prayers, while also distancing himself from our hands and our mouths. And it doesn’t work. ... He has artistically lost track of his audience and himself in its midst.

He’s hung up on Jesus rather than pneumatic women. It’s hard to tell if that’s an improvement, but it doesn’t seem like a regression either. ... An album with zero fat, dense in at least three senses, two of them positive. [Dec 2019, p.60]

As with every Kanye album, there’s some magnificent production on a majority of “Jesus Is King” courtesy of Pi’erre Bourne, Timbaland and Boogz, among others. ... Kanye just seems like he’s in his own world; disregarding what’s going on around him. Other times, Ye’s writing delves into eyerolling contradictions and ego-driven intentions.
