Good production and a good listen. Kanye seems happier now and i’m glad that this album reflects his new faith. Not the album I was expecting, but i like the use of gospel and the new kanye.

You don't have to be religious to enjoy what was a solid effort by West to express the new feelings of profound spirituality the man is now feeling. This feels completely different than what we've heard from him before because this is a new Kanye. This is him putting his faith into creating music that touches the soul, and there definitely are tracks that do so.

Not too familiar with Kanye's music, I was expecting this to be some kind of glossy Hillsong type of a record, but was surprised with how rich and eclectic the sound was. Granted, the album seems a little too short and some of songs end abruptly – like they were cut off by mistake. I really like the instrumentation and the choir, which unfortunately wasn't utilised to its full potential. Not too familiar with Kanye's music, I was expecting this to be some kind of glossy Hillsong type of a record, but was surprised with how rich and eclectic the sound was. Ye is fervent here like never before and you can feel he's coming straight from the heart so strong you cannot ignore it. --And I don't want to. Songs such as Closed on Sunday combine music with clever lyrics to create a true auditory experience.

Most of the songs in this album are ones you can really feel as you listen to it. Usually I only buy individual songs, rarely do I purchase an entire album. This is one of those rare circumstances where I bought the entire thing because it was just that good.

Some people have complained that this album does not have fully fleshed out theological ruminations. But that's not what it's meant to have. New and non-Christians can enjoy this and, besides, Ye is a new Christian himself. But tbh "Jesus loves me" is a very deep, commonly known song. Anyone who says otherwise has not explored the depth of that revelation. My point? You will get whatever depth you wish to from the album. But forgetting that weird critic on a metric that's inapplicable to the album, the music itself is well-made and certainly worth purchasing.

It shouldn't work - this gospel-rap combo - but somehow it does, and the result is pretty compelling. (I say this as an atheist, by the way, who, generally speaking, is allergic to religious art.)

Kanye's misfires are more interesting and risk-taking than other artists greatest successes.

It's his weakest work but.... the album feels honest, sincere, and constructed with real authenticity and focus. It reflects where he is now as a person and artist and embraces the flaws, idiosyncrasies, and creativity of Kanye as he is at this place in his life. Always interesting - and a great

The album was alright. Not the greatest album kanye has made. What I think is that kanye wants to experiment with new sounds. There was some good tracks but it kinda died in the middle of the album. It wasn't bad or an masterpiece.

This album is getting a lot of hate, but its kind of fire. Great to good production throughout the album. The lyrics aren't anything too special but they are pretty decent. My only other problem is its way too short to be considered a full album.

I dont like the perspective that alot of these reviews look at the album from. It's so great to see Kanye happy, and at peace. After years, a literal decade, of controversy and headlines, Mr West has finally found his rock.

Kanye's chaotic mind tackles several aspects and challenges of devotion to Jesus in a beautiful display of genres. His characteristic chipmunk soul sampling is stronger than ever. Some production aspects were kinda sloppy, but I loved the album.

    Certified Album of the year!

Kanye did it again he made a Masterpiece and the people disliking it are snakes.

The songs all sound like they are made in heaven. When I listen to the songs it feels like I'm floating in the air and being blissful on a magical soundscape.

Fantastic. Really enjoyed listening to this.

A little to short though. Not a big fan of the trend of making the album to short.

I really enjoyed the album. This is an album only Kanye West can make, and no one else.

As for Kanye, it feels like he actually has a purpose this time. The Life of Pablo captured his headspace as he was going through meltdown after meltdown, Ye captured his reaction to being hated by damn near everyone because of his political beliefs (and to be fair he should be critiqued for that) but now he’s sort of going back to his roots and then turning it up to 10. This whole album feels like Jesus Walks on steroids and while it isn’t perfect, it’s still pretty freaking awesome. Expand

First and foremost a gospel album. Don’t expect a lot of bars, punchlines and intricate lyricism. Kanye really express his devotion to God and Jesus Christ troughout the project; going through how even ‘He’ saved a wretch like him – in Selah – and how hard it is to follow the model of Christ since he’s so perfect – in Follow God –. The production is impeccable, breathtaking – specially in tracks like Selah, God Is and Water – showcasing how Kanye hasn’t lost his touch as a producer. The collaborations are on point as well: Ant Clemons, Ty Dolla $ign, Clipse (reunited) and Kenny G. The track On God feats great producing by the super talented Pierre Bourne and a controversial “13th amendment gotta end” line which may be a problem for those that are not aware/educated on the subject. Nothing new in a Kanye project, who is marked with controversial statements and lines throughout his discography. The only let down is the abrupt ending in Jesus is Lord, but it’s no big deal reallty. Expand

What Kanye accomplished for hiphop / pop music on 808s he does for gospel music w/ this song right here. In fact he achieves this w/ this entire album. I can see the live tour being lit af! His reunion with frequent collaborators belies a rich history of discovering and championing new voices. This ostensible distance from which Kanye preaches reveals King’s true tension: Kanye, like Kendrick on DAMN., is asking for our prayers, while also distancing himself from our hands and our mouths. And it doesn’t work. ... He has artistically lost track of his audience and himself in its midst.

He’s hung up on Jesus rather than pneumatic women. It’s hard to tell if that’s an improvement, but it doesn’t seem like a regression either. ... An album with zero fat, dense in at least three senses, two of them positive. [Dec 2019, p.60]

As with every Kanye album, there’s some magnificent production on a majority of “Jesus Is King” courtesy of Pi’erre Bourne, Timbaland and Boogz, among others. ... Kanye just seems like he’s in his own world; disregarding what’s going on around him. Other times, Ye’s writing delves into eyerolling contradictions and ego-driven intentions.
