I love the majority of this album. The concept and lyrics in these 12 tracks are some of the best I've heard this decade. However, there's something about the instrumentals in some of these songs that aren't memorable and/or too serious to take seriously. 'What's Good' is an example of this. The track is a mix of 'Cherry Bomb' and 'Flower Boy'. Cool right? No, its average at best. TheI love the majority of this album. The track is a mix of 'Cherry Bomb' and 'Flower Boy'. Cool right? No, its average at best. The second half of 'New Magic Wand' is pretty laughable too. 'Are We Still Friends' was great until Tyler severely missed his high notes. Like come on, this is not an organic, raw voice, its terrible and almost ruins the whole song. The last issue I had was that 'Igor's Theme' was a bit bland after a few listens. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good song. Apart from these issues, the rest of the album was great. 'Earfquake' is a banger, 'I Think' grew on me and its beat is amazing, 'I Don't Love You Anymore' was a perfect lofi tune and 'A Boy Is A Gun' will go down as the best song of 2019. It sucks that the few issues I had with this album stuck out but I have to be honest, without them, this album could of potentially been a 10/10. Expand

Igor is a masterpiece and probably my favorite album ever made. The album is total synth porn, the cords are beautiful and the flow and pacing of the album is great. Tyler's bars on the album are wonderful and really show off some good word play. His total genius is shown through out the experimental production. This is his best album to date and i cant be more excited for his next work.

This is one of my favorite album from Tyler, The Creator. Tyler managed to create his album "IGOR" a masterpiece album of 2019. This album is so beautiful that I've listened to this production like 5 times in a day due to the album being short like 40 mins. I recommend that you should listen to this masterpiece!

I said that this one of my favorite album from Tyler, The Creator; I didn't listen to any of his other albums, so Flower Boy is my favourite now. 3 songs I find is meh now, but the rest are good, the production is amazing tho.

    IGOR'S THEME - 7/10
    EARFQUAKE - 9/10
    I THINK - 8/10
EXACTLY WHERE YOU RUN FROM YOU END UP CHASING - not count/10
RUNNING OUT OF TIME - 6/10
    NEW MAGIC WAND - 8/10
    A BOY IS A GUN* - 10/10
    PUPPET - 9/10
    WHAT'S GOOD - 9/10
    GONE, GONE/THANK YOU - 9/10 / 8/10
    I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE - 6/10
ARE WE STILL FRIENDS? - 8/10

This is still my favourite album from him but behind Wolf, IGOR is still amazing, in my top 20 rap albums. Score is originally a 10, now is a 8. sorry.

The album establishes mood better than almost any. The production is flawless and jaw dropping. It's innovate, genreless and a treat to listen to. The mix of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, psychedelia, and hip hop is done so masterfully. A true jaw dropping artistic creation sonically, but also carries a well thought out and layered theme.

Tyler the Creator combined his owen more modern style and took inspiration from 80's pop music and made it work with his. Production, features, concept, structure, idea this album has it all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tyler’s most mature and nuanced album to date. After the revelations of ‘Flower Boy,’ ‘IGOR’ takes the ideas of love and sexuality and plunges deep into them, exploring a narrative of love, lust, jealousy, loss and finally acceptance. The features, aside from Playboy Carti on ‘EARFQUAKE,’ are all placed subtly and add to the musical landscape rather than distract from it and the sonic aesthetic created by Tyler is a perfect blending of the lo-fi indie stylings of ‘Flower Boy’ and the brash, abrasive and distorted synth-bass driven hip-hop of early Tyler works. ‘IGOR’ contains Tyler at his most vulnerable throughout the track list; particularly on the albums emotional climax ‘NEW MAGIC WAND,’ where Tyler seemingly flies into a fit of rage which is perfectly reflected by the distorted vocals, heavy bass and stuttering drums. One could criticise Tyler’s at time off-key singing during the record, however I feel that it more adds to the honesty and vulnerability that he is exhibiting here as he wears his heart truly on his sleeves. This is the evolution that truly brings fans of Tyler and critics together in agreement of the album’s excellence. Expand

Tyler sparks the album with Igor’s theme. Igor explores the story of love. All great journey’s take your heart along, and this is no exception. There’s a certain bouncing from the walls, electric, where-am-I-and-why-are-we-moshing-through-dandelions atmosphere running through it, used for tension during the conflict in New Magic Wand, and woeful acceptance later in I DON’T LOVE YOU ANYMORE.

Anxious fervent passion with Earfquake, channeling voice distortions to put you at the fault line of yearning. The album is riddled with immersive chunky galvanics, shaking you into emotion. You hear espers of flower boy too, but its like you’re far off on some hill looking back to it.
You either get caught up on the lack of rap or so much so in the arrangement you never notice. What made Tyler were his lyrics: harsh, vile and often belligerent; you couldn’t not listen to him. But in Igor it’s hard to notice Tyler the Rapper in particular.

He isn’t washed out by his features. They’re used to accentuate, bringing out the best of Playboi Carti on Earfquake with adlibbing and pacing to mimic the tumbling when you first meet someone that could matter to you; Kanye is made raw and rhythmic, forgoing lyricism and instead playing his role in the story of Igor as Igor, Tyler’s obsession through the story. “You lost, son, and you've been tryna find your way to me…first, light the weed,”- Igor. Aah, unreciprocated love; the human condition.

Tyler had warned fans to take a walk, fill your volume and, something hard in the information overload of our decade, to listen. This is may be Tyler’s blonde or maybe his Yeezus or maybe not. It doesn’t matter. Tyler wanted to make the listener feel something. Whether that’s just synthy love, so be it.

One of his better albums instrumentally. Although I feel like flower boy was more cohesive and that flower boy is better, I still enjoyed this album. Brilliant direction and concept. Always nice to see a side Tyler never exposed fuly before: Tyler in love.

One of the most beautifully produced albums in recent memory. The instrumentals on every track are gorgeous and demonstrate Tyler's unique musical talent by producing sounds unlike any we have heard before. He mixes in a series of fantastic features and choruses that layer perfectly with the instrumentals and highlight what this album is about: the production.

As a full experience it's pretty good , but after the first listen there's no reason to come back to any of the tracks , except two that I thought where catchy , the whole experience overall starts to feel like a chore by the midpoint of the album .
    Disappointing.

A triumphant return for the rapper. Evokes raw emotion with his instrumentals and lyricism that reveal a more vulnerable Tyler. A journey into his mind that is bombastic and engaging. A welcome return.

This album is very sweet very calming and just very nice in general. Everything about it i love. Its just great definitely already replayed it over 30 times. The only reason it gets a (9) is that i were to hoped for more rapping from tyler in his own voice as well. His changes from high don’t however ruin the experience. Its just that tyler has a nice voice.

One of the worst albums I ever heard, production is good but that's where it ends. Hardly any lyrics, a whole lot of samples , nothing makes sense. What happened to making meaningful music, with verses and hooks? Absolutely pathetic album, if you think this is good you honestly need help. 0/10 and I'm not trolling, it's not listenable.

It can come across as rather repetitive throughout with some songs feeling like you’ve heard it before on first listen. Tyler also can’t sing at all, leaving a high pitched voice in place for his singing voice, reminding me of a great Mac millar tape - delusional Thomas, however Tyler’s voice is one of the reasons he was so memorable and that raw aggressive deep voice has no place on IGOR.

IGOR, where not a let down, is not the work I expected from Tyler and feels more along the mainstream audience with constant hooks instead of content.

Tyler Okonma, more widely known as Tyler, The Creator, is not simply a rap artist. The evolution of his sound since his initial mix tape, Goblin, is quite impressive. His persistent and radiant creativity is what crowns him as one of the most diverse, innovative, and talented artists of the 2010's.
Following an explosion in popularity after the release of his 2017 album 'Flower Boy', Okonma finds himself at what seems to be an extreme high point in his music career, with an impressive follow-up being eagerly anticipated by his fans. On May 17th, 2019, Igor was released after a string of short teaser video clips featuring snippets of tracks. The pressure was on and the expectations were high, yet he absolutely exceeded them.
Igor's unique discourse from the rest of Okonma's discography sets itself apart as a beautiful narrative and creative powerhouse layered with gorgeous production, unorthodox structure, organically emotional performances, weird vocal distortions and catchy hooks. The underlying narrative of a blossoming and eventually fading relationship is beautifully expressed throughout the album. There is a clear emotional arc displayed in tracks such as "Earfquake", "I Think", "Gone, Gone/ Thank You", and "I Don't Love You Anymore". The unorthodox structure of these songs express a uniquely artistic portrayal of the difficult complexity of love and loss.
With several VERY appropriate and well utilized features such as Playboi Carti, Solange and Kanye West, Okonma successfully blends the sounds of these artists, perfectly woven into the production and pace of each track. As he stated, "do not expect a rap album", and this is most definitely the farthest a Tyler, The Creator album has ever felt from hip hop. What Igor ends up sounding like is what could most accurately be compared to as soul music album. With beautiful and luscious synths, pounding percussion, powerful performances from a range of vocal styles, as well as evenly paced tempos, this albums flows as one giant love ballad.
I will admit that it took me a few listens to truly enjoy the complexity and passion put into this project. This album is weird. It is very, very weird. It is also more repetitive than what is expected from Okonma. However, for any music listener willing to subject themselves into an overwhelming, dream-like, emotionally manipulating sensation, this album is for you. I am thoroughly impressed with Igor and cannot wait to see what the future has in store for Tyler, The Creator. Hell, if he continues to push himself and let his creative mind run wild...he may even beat this.

This album, from start to finish, is great. It's hard to categorize this album, as it masterfully mixes rap, soul, and synth pop into something that feels really unique. Tyler retains some aspects from Flower Boy while also introducing experimental aspects that make it stand out. IGOR is probably my favorite rap album of this year, and I look forward to what Tyler does next.

Things improve markedly when he plays to his strengths with the nuanced narrative of “A Boy Is A Gun”, but ultimately such moments [are] hard to hear over the pitiable “Puppet” and “Earfquake”, functional pop wisely rejected by Justin Bieber and Rihanna. When the narrative sags and his mind seems to wander, it just isn’t enough, no matter how stylish the trimmings. [Aug 2019, p.68]

For the most part, Tyler has opted out of his rapping heritage, preferring pitch-altered singing vocals which will split some opinion. However, this elevated IGOR beyond the mere confines of genre, to a substantially great work of art, cementing Tyler's case as one of this decade's most essential artists.

It’s an intriguing album with few dips (only Kanye’s verse on Puppet sounds rather phoned in and lacklustre), and it adds up to Tyler, The Creator’s best work to date. He may not be threatening Western civilization anymore, but he is creating something far more interesting.
