Another classic album from Tyler! The production is amazing and his new style is getting even more into singing instead of rapping. Although his singing voice isn't exactly great it has charm and the songs are great and fit well with it.

The opening track, IGOR'S Theme, is an oddly beautiful mix of synth, drums, bass, and electric guitar, giving the listener an insight into the remainder of the album. Several songs stood out to me specifically, including EARFQUAKE, RUNNING OUT OF TIME, and GONE GONE/ THANK YOU. This album is not perfect, however, and some flaws include the heavy bass and synth sometimes drowning out the vocals, and the overall lack of vocal performance from Tyler, and while there are some amazing bars and vocals, they are not as numerous as in Flower Boy. However, Tyler did state in an official post that this would not be a rap album, so take that as you will. Overall, compared to Flower Boy, this is a much more experimental album, and will not work for some people, but it sure did for me. If you have not listened to IGOR yet, please give it a listen as it will be 100% worth your time. Expand

The instrumentals on every track are gorgeous and demonstrate Tyler's unique musical talent by producing sounds unlike any we have heard before. Tyler has managed to create a wild and cathartic portrayal of love, forming not only a fresh take on the "breakup album" format, but crafting a sound which perfectly and creatively captures the essence of infatuation, separation, and desperation. Meanwhile, his jazzy color tones and beautiful chord progressions create a sense of awe at the beautiful and uncompromising force which drives our emotions...

...But wait! There's more! Tyler's maximalist style is rich with details and subtleties that come together to express the powerful narrative. The explosive basses throughout the album drive moments of overwhelming emotion, and the analog synths that decorate the album help to express the cuter and quirkier aspects of the game of love. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tyler’s most mature and nuanced album to date. After the revelations of ‘Flower Boy,’ ‘IGOR’ takes the ideas of love and sexuality and plunges deep into them, exploring a narrative of love, lust, jealousy, loss and finally acceptance. The features, aside from Playboy Carti on ‘EARFQUAKE,’ are all placed subtly and add to the musical landscape rather than distract from it and the sonic aesthetic created by Tyler is a perfect blending of the lo-fi indie stylings of ‘Flower Boy’ and the brash, abrasive and distorted synth-bass driven hip-hop of early Tyler works. ‘IGOR’ contains Tyler at his most vulnerable throughout the track list; particularly on the albums emotional climax ‘NEW MAGIC WAND,’ where Tyler seemingly flies into a fit of rage which is perfectly reflected by the distorted vocals, heavy bass and stuttering drums. One could criticise Tyler’s at time off-key singing during the record, however I feel that it more adds to the honesty and vulnerability that he is exhibiting here as he wears his heart truly on his sleeves. This is the evolution that truly brings fans of Tyler and critics together in agreement of the album’s excellence. Expand

Tyler's most artistic work yet. I personally really resonated with his concept and the aesthetic is perfectly executed. All songs have there spot and contribute to the album. Tyler the Creator combined his owen more modern style and took inspiration from 80's pop music and made it work with his. Production, features, concept, structure, idea this album has it all.

Probably my favourite Tyler album to date. The production is incredible and innovative and the album tells Tyler's breakup story very well. Not one bad song on it and overall a very consistent, cohesive album. Def worth a 10/10.

Highlights: Earfquake, I think, New magic wand, A boy is a gun & What's good

Igor is a masterpiece and probably my favorite album ever made. The album is total synth porn, the cords are beautiful and the flow and pacing of the album is great. Tyler's bars on the album are wonderful and really show off some good word play. His total genius is shown through out the experimental production. This is his best album to date and i cant be more excited for his next work.

Igor is a magical experience. It really shows Tyler's evolution not only musically but also individually. Tyler is able to tell a story throughout the album that shows a personal change within him. The instrumentalism is perfect. After his experiences with Cherry Bomb, it is evident that Tyler learnt a lot and was able to create this purposefully bad mixing on this album. Igor is Tyler'sIgor is a magical experience. IGOR is a masterpiece. the production blends genres like hip hop, pop, r&b, and soul equally. it's tyler's best yet, and that goes for his songwriting as well. he raps, but he sings all over the place, and sounds beautiful too. that's a testiment to his production, but also, to his refined songwriting. what makes IGOR stick out from the rest of his albums, however, is his storytelling. this heartbreaking love story is deep, and highly relatable. above all, the way that he tells it is absolutely gorgeous. Flower Boy is great, but its successor is perfect. IGOR is Tyler, The Creator's best album to date.

Incredible. Just incredible. Tyler's artistic evolution since the start of his career is unmatched by any other musician. This album shows how much he has grown. From addicting, emotional songs like the most popular song off of the album, EARFQUAKE to hard hitting bangers like WHAT'S GOOD and NEW MAGIC WAND, this album is incredible. The weakest song on the album in my opinion is RUNNING OUT OF TIME, don't get me wrong, this song is still good, it's just the weakest out of the incredible catalog of this masterpiece of an album. This has to be Tyler's best work of art. Not downplaying Flower Boy whatsoever, but the production of this is amazing. Dives in to the rarity of classic album storytelling and the beautiful yet dangerous timeline of toxic infatuation. Easy 10, my favorite album ever.

Things improve markedly when he plays to his strengths with the nuanced narrative of “A Boy Is A Gun”, but ultimately such moments [are] hard to hear over the pitiable “Puppet” and “Earfquake”, functional pop wisely rejected by Justin Bieber and Rihanna. When the narrative sags and his mind seems to wander, it just isn’t enough, no matter how stylish the trimmings. [Aug 2019, p.68]

For the most part, Tyler has opted out of his rapping heritage, preferring pitch-altered singing vocals which will split some opinion. However, this elevated IGOR beyond the mere confines of genre, to a substantially great work of art, cementing Tyler's case as one of this decade's most essential artists.

It’s an intriguing album with few dips (only Kanye’s verse on Puppet sounds rather phoned in and lacklustre), and it adds up to Tyler, The Creator’s best work to date. He may not be threatening Western civilization anymore, but he is creating something far more interesting.
