It's her most musically complex work, during the entire passage of the album there is overcoming pain and the struggle to regain freedom and self-esteem of a personality lost between the sentimental dichotomies of a great emotional shock. Visceral and transparent, the album is a great autobiographical material for Kelly Clarkson. After all, much more than commercial American pop, the album explored Latin and black music veins to give more weight to the portrayed dramas. Therefore, the listener is able to perceive pop itself, but also R&B, gospel, soft rock, reggaeton, huapango, mariachi, folk and electropop. Expand

No words can describe how perfectly imperfect this album is. It is not the ultimate heart wrenching breakup album but brings you throughout a whole relationship. Lighthouse is my favourite. Kudos Kelly!

Not as soul-baring as one might expect from a "divorce record" but Kelly Clarkson sounds as great as ever as she soars on Chemistry. Standouts like Rock Hudson, Skip This Part, Mine, High Road, Down to You, Lighthouse – they all feel essential to the story she's telling. You feel the pain that she's feeling in these deeply personal songs. A really strong "divorce record" that's more interested in empowering the listener and Kelly herself, by moving forward, than looking back. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The album is conceptualised to represent the arc of an entire relationship, but most of these songs fade into one another and they just are too similar. Not just is it her first non-Christmas album in over four years, but it also is one of her most weakly-strung albums to date. Expand

Emotionally and sonically mature, cohesive and consistent. All the tracks hold their own, the vocal performance is as amazing as anyone would expect it from her. The production is really smooth, blending pop, r&b, soft rock and soul.

I have to admit, it's a grower. The first few listens I didn't like it at all but after the 3rd time I was hooked on every single song. If you give it time

I have to admit, it's a grower. The first few listens I didn't like it at all but after the 3rd time I was hooked on every single song. If you give it time they're all earworms. The lyricism is also worth mentioning, Kelly is growing to be a great songwriter, not just a vocalist.

Some songs are truly heart-wrenching while we also find anger and happiness/love on the album. She was right, you get to experience every single emotion you would during a relationship.

For me Meaning Of Life is still the best Kelly Clarkson album but this is a veery close second.

My top tracks: that's right, red flag collector, i hate love, down to you, mine

Listening Kelly Clarkson with a complete attention for the first time is... funny, because it is incredibly easy to focus out of her music. I don't know how or why, but paying attention to this glory pop which she has been working with her entire career has become something incredible superfluous.
Don't misunderstand me, she does have a powerful voice, full of energy and great range, but

Don't misunderstand me, she does have a powerful voice, full of energy and great range, but the production is just a giant pile of recyclated sounds and melodies, it is completely burnt. And her lyrics, well... just as well, this epic phrases have become just cute footnotes on books written with a whole new level of lyrica she is showing she can not match. At least on this album. I hope this is just the step out of something she needs to evolve of.

Outstanding album--worthy of a 3rd Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy, if an artist is to achieve that.

Despite Clarkson's rousing performances and optimistic outlook, Chemistry feels cloistered and secluded, lacking pathways into its inner sanctuaries.

Luckily, there are enough tracks to cement Kelly Clarkson’s status as a long-standing pop icon – and to sympathise with her as a human being who only longs for emotional security.

While it might not be her most eclectic work, Chemistry grapples with this condition in the most human ways.
