The match between Bennett and Gaga winds up quite differently from the one between the master and k.d. lang in 2002. Those two created a more sober and mature affair. By contrast, the duets with Gaga give Bennett a whole new hold on youth.

As someone who has long questioned how genuine a talent Lady Gaga is, I have to say, I was shocked after having listened to Cheek to Cheek. Underneath those over-sized wigs and extravagant outfits is a girl with one very powerful voice! She mightn't have the extensive vocal range some of the other pop stars have, but there is one thing she does have and that is control.

This collaborative effort between Gaga and Tony makes for very easy listening. In fact, I don't think there was a single song on the album that I felt the need to skip.

This album was a definite shock. I am a usual jazz listener, and I am used to most of these standards. It was simply to listen to their renditions, which were all great. More of us are—admittedly—checking out Cheek to Cheek for only one of the two iconic musicians on this duet album and well, it's Mother Monster herself. Not all of us adore her—ARTPOP or 'Artflop', to anti-Monsters, obviously disappointed in the commercial market and the critical world—however, we're intrigued because she's a contemporary artist. But we shouldn't really be surprised sinceMore of us are—admittedly—checking out Cheek to Cheek for only one of the two iconic musicians on this duet album and well, it's Mother Monster herself. Not all of us adore her—ARTPOP or 'Artflop', to anti-Monsters, obviously disappointed in the commercial market and the critical world—however, we're intrigued because she's a contemporary artist. But we shouldn't really be surprised since Gaga has not only sang jazz since her childhood, but her previous duet with the legendary Tony Bennett on their 2012 duet "The Lady Is a Tramp" was one of the highlights of Duet II. It was a pleasant surprise to music listeners and little monsters alike.

As far as Cheek to Cheek goes, any comparisons to Madonna's soundtrack album I'm Breathless or any original jazz album for that matter should be discarded. It's a cover album and as far as reviewing it goes, well, it's about as cheesy yet admittedly feel-good jazzy cover album goes. Despite her tendency to over-sing some of the songs, Gaga has a charming and very impressive vocal range in many of the songs, including her own solo performance on the 1933 song "Lush Life". Even if some of their duets aren't all that memorable, they're smooth enough to earn themselves the top-played album of the year at dinner parties. "Nature Boy" is one of the finest examples of their chemistry—which has faults on other tracks. To sum it up, in order to develop any attachment to Cheek to Cheek, the details aren't all that necessary to analyze, just enjoy it for what it is: a fun duet between two respected musicians.

All in all, some songs are listenable, some I'd say "nice" (a seven), but some are horrid! Specially Gaga solos... This could be a better album. "The Lady is a Tramp" (2011) sounds really better. More fluid and natural. What a waste.

Why can't people be objective anymore? 182 users (so far) rating this album with a 10! This must be a joke. Tony is doing here what he's been doing for decades so there is nothing new. Meanwhile in Cheek to cheek she falls flat offering a parody of herself. Expand

What a wasted opportunity. Gaga can't relax enough to put her own spin on these standards. This project might have benefitted from the pair performing originals rather than these standards. It's so easy to cherry pick vastly superior versions of each of these songs by other artists. If the pair has written their own music together then Gaga might not have sounded like a off-key mimic. Гага на альбоме оказалась лишней.

Жаль,что тОни не смог бы так раскрутиться без этой пожирневшей безголосой смехотворной курицы.

    Очень жаль.

Bunch of Covers. Nothing new or interesting. Sad that a living legend like Tony Bennet had to do this duet with this clown. Next time Tony should choose someone like Adele or Leona Lewis with real talent.

This album will be her biggest flop (commercial failure)..It's so bad. Save yourself and don't bother listening to it.

Don't waste your time. Gaga is trying to be something she CLEARLY is not and it doesn't work in my opinion.

The album drags on and on endlessly. The vocals are sub-par. Everything is bad, sorry.

Her voice is horrible!!! i can't ,back to auto-tune gaga please. I hope Gaga don't continue in Jazz, because her voice is not for that. The over exaggeration of vocals, tony is not good too. I think was not good combination between gaga and tony.

Gaga has a good voice but i find her a bit desperate in her failed attempt appeal to a different audience. She might be flopping in pop but at least her music was kinda fun before.

All of these songs have been done many, many times before and much, much better. Not feeling this at all and any positive reviews u hearing have to be from brainwashed culturally artistically and historically disinclined misinformed monsters and payola media outlets or people who love tony...this chick sounds like a cat being skinned alive!  She cones off as a fake contrived screaming mockingbird wannabe any winhouse nora jones or adele she cleary is not!

Ultimately, Cheek to Cheek is pleasant through and through. It’s not the greatest standards duets album ever recorded, but nor is it a dud.

Cheek to Cheek is a record where the music and even the songs take a backseat to the personalities.

Shallow, deeply unimaginative renditions [of standards out of the Great American Songbook].
