Quite a lot of emotion, especially because of the passing of their drummer, i get that, but this album can't hold a candle against their former albums. This sounds like any ordinary random rock album.

though the album is very emotional (ofc), the songs are really boring and underwhelming. as a FF fan since day one i'm very disappointed. not even close to mediocre

The album is perfect, with great tracks, guitar solos and Dave Grohl's voice conveying a lot of emotion and feeling. I'm already looking forward to seeing them live on the new tour.

On that debut album, no mention of loss or grief was made. Nearly 30 years later, Grohl tackles the loss of loved ones head on with absolute bravery. But Here We Are, the 11th studio album from the Foo Fighters, is used as a therapeutic cleansing of the painful process that is involved with death and loss. The writing is a bit on the nose, but was done so in the most tragic of times and presents a raw take. A good portion of songs will sound familiar to the average Foo Fighter fan, but there's a different energy that pulsates all throughout the album. Waves of noise wash over the listener in fragments, but moments of vulnerable intimacy are also found here. The Glass is the only song on the album that feels out of place. The undeniable highlight of the album comes at the end with a beautiful and messy transition from The Teacher into the heart shattering Rest. The lyrics on the closing track are heartfelt and the most vulnerable since the bands second album ( The Colour and the Shape). To coincide with the well crafted lyrics, Grohl delivers a riff that shatters the soul. An argument can be made for Rest being one of the best songs the band has ever put out. Overall, But Here We Are gives Dave Grohl a second chance at addressing the death of loved ones. He succeeds, and honors Taylor and Virginia with a brilliant masterpiece. Expand

As an FF listener from the 90, I have to say that his album stands as one of their best, and without a doubt, it is the best since 2007 Echoes.. From that album (Echoes..) onwards I always thought that FF suffered from luck of purpose, both in their lyrics and sound. As if they had found the perfect combination of both and keep going doing the same with small or forced variations. From that album (Echoes..) onwards I always thought that FF suffered from luck of purpose, both in their lyrics and sound. As if they had found the perfect combination of both and keep going doing the same with small or forced variations. Do not take this as a critic, I loved their latest albums and I´m a frequent listener of them. But in this "But Here We Are" the momentum is back, the purpose of all words written and sung, the sound and solos, all is here with common purpose: to say goodbye to a friend, to grief, to heal. The lyrics and sounds takes you to a journey many of us passed at least once in our lifetime: The sense of loss, missing someone, realizing that the feeling is forever and finally, accepting it and hoping for the best. My favorite tracks are "Hearing Voices" "The Glass" and "Beyond Me". As a closing commentary, the final track, "Rest", I had to stop it the first time I heard it. My mom died almost 10 years ago, ten years!, and God, it was hard to listen Grohl singing what I always hoped for her after she died. 10/10 Expand

Best and most authentic Foo Fighters album in many years. Light, heavy, and heartfelt, it is Foo Fighters at their best. Reminiscent of the band in their late-90's / early 2000's prime while still being fresh and original. An amazing send off written for their late drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Every song is amazing in itself, full of raw emotional lyrics, where you almost feel a bit guilty hearing Dave's deepest emotions.

Thee most exciting they've sounded ever really. I couldn't really get into their other stuff but somehow this one really is hitting. The production is at a oeak, the lyrics though true to their traditions are packed with memorable hooks and anthems.

Still crying everytime the album ends. The Foo Fighters' most intimate work. It's like the various stages of grief, like anger and non-acceptance, gradually become acceptance.

This is a killer record. I expect that it will grow in stature in the Foo’s catalogue with time. Having lost close friends, this record is both a warm hug and a call to get on with life. PS Dave’s daughter has a bright future in the music industry.

PPS Have you considered how fortunate we are to have this record?

Incredible album that takes you on a journey of both grief and gratitude through its highs and lows. I did not grow up with Foo Fighters, and I understand this album is meant to be very important, but not even their most popular songs sounded as pop as these. Yet, that is not the problem. There is an energy so powerful that you can hardly see or feel the emotion on the complete project.
I do give points for the way they explore and handle that explosion. This album is interesting because

I do give points for the way they explore and handle that explosion. This album is interesting because of that. In a way, this is the band trying to cope with so many things at the same time, and that is very admirable, I just wish they would've let themselves be more vulnerable and explore a more mature essence instead of one that feels so explosive.
One way or another, this is not bad at all, and I'm happy they are rising from their own selves.
Those only two last songs are heart crushing, tho.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fairly easily the best Foo Fighters album in my opinion. The singles and standout tracks, while excellent, do not reach the same levels of perfection as their past hits. Even so, there is not a single point on this album where it feels boring, every song is just as fantastic as the last. Their past albums all have at least one song that just doesn't work, this one does not. But Here We Are is the most cohesive album I've heard all year, and the new greatest Foo Fighters album. As well as an essential album for any fan of hard rock, and a must listen for anyone. Maybe not necessarily a 10/10 in a vacuum; but compared to their past work, and compared to other similar albums, it really does feel sort of perfect. Expand

What an exceptional heartfelt and personal record from the Foo Fighters. Dave's Midas touch continues to spread on everything he approaches. The record is peppered with musical jewels and shines with a predictably superb production. it gets better with every listen.
