Aunque me cueste, me quedo con Love On The Brain, Kiss It Better, Desperado y Higher.

That being said, the album is held together by a series of brief interludes among the full-length songs. Although it does fuse many genres, the album has a much more downtempo feel then previous works like 'Unapologetic' and 'Talk That Talk'. The highlight of the album is the blissful 'Kiss It Better', no doubt the best contender for the next single. Another stand out track is 'Love On The Brain' a 50's style ballad where Rihanna's voice soars to places never heard before. Album opener 'Consideration' which features SZA is a confident kiss-off to possibly and ex but mostly likely the music industry/media. Other album highlights include: 'Same Ol' Mistakes', 'Never Ending', and 'Desperado'. The lowest point of the album is without a doubt the auto-tune laced, Travis Scott/The Weeknd produced, 'Woo'. Without this track, the album would flow much better but there're enough great songs on the record that this lack-luster let down can be ignored. Expand

For such a big, well-known star like Rihanna to release such an experimental album at this point in her career is a risk: a risk that has paid off. Despite the range of genres (including psychedelic rock, old-school jazz, alternative R&B, dancehall, trap and hip-hop), ANTI is still able to run cohesively as an album. The weakest song on the album is 'James Joint', however it should be noted that this track is not actually a full-length song but an interlude. Rihanna's vocals soar on every track (especially in Love On The Brain and Higher), showcasing the sheer versatility and brilliance of a voice that is significantly underrated in today's music industry.
With this album, Rihanna makes a statement. The star is no longer just a 'singer', but is a visionary, an artist, unafraid of breaking expected boundaries and subverting the general idea that people have of her. ANTI truly and unapologetically delivers, proving worthy of the lengthy wait.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

It's the best thing Rihanna has done, the pure R&B coming out of this album is such an amazing thing that it makes it versatile and easy to do everything ahead to get into any genre. A production of great detail, and its compositions are ideas. That sounds like one of the best albums of 2016.

It looks quite experimental, but for sure is her best work. As a full body of work, it is not completely consistent, but each track has its own personality, in addition to as always, its hits and striking voice.
Love On The Brain, Consideration, Same Ol' Mistakes, Higher and Needed Me, are absolutely a must-listen.

I thought this was a good album. It was different for her! I wish it was more up tempo songs but the songs were very good! Highlight songs for me were James Join, Kiss It Better, Work, Desperado, Needed Me, Yeah, I Said It, Love On The Brain, Higher, Pose, and Sex with Me!

ANTi is a completely different album of her other works and this causes some fans don't like the custom of previous "dance" songs. On the album, Rihanna shows beautiful vocals and instrumentals are much more calm than expected. In my opinion, the album is pleasant at all.
Best: Consideration, Kiss It Better, Desperado and Love On The Brain.

With several postponements and exchange executive producer (change Kanye by Travis was a mistake, in fact), but there are plausible ranges as "Consideration" - which brings the wonderful SZA and opens the album with all serenity - "Desperado" and "Needed Me" (well centered , sensual and challenging), the wonderful cover "Same Ol 'Love" by Tame Impala and ballads "Higher" and "Never Ending".

The album also has tracks that resemble the soundtrack of the film 50 Shades of Grey as "Kiss It Better" and "Love on the Brain", which are extremely hot tracks and fitantes. Overall, the production focused on the R&B and Hip-Hop has made the album becomes a little homogenic, yet well thought out and prepared.

But not everything is rosy, the biggest error of the album is Rihanna have discarded the three singles: FourFiveSeconds, **** Better Have My Money and American Oxygen. As much as the tracks had about help of Kanye West, could be easily embedded in the context of the album.

Finally, it is a risky, challenging and serene album that brings a new Rihanna's vision to her career - the music chameleon who's always in search of new to his discography.

Anti showcases Rihanna's voice more than any of her other albums and also has some of her best songs to date. "Desperado" is a standout on the album as well as "Love on the Brain, which is very different than a lot of what Rihanna has done in the past. It's her best album since Loud.

In fact there's no bad songs at all; this is the most consistent project she's ever released. There's a couple mediocre tracks here and there however. For example, the Travis Scott collaboration 'Woo' which sounds like an extremely underdeveloped Rodeo outtake or the electric guitar driven 'Kiss It Better' but overall the album is very consistently good. It definitely lacks direction though and that makes it feel more like a compilation than an album at times. I don't really mind, I mean she does every sound well and it's to be expected for someone finally heading into a more artistic direction after album after album of pop hits and filler. I'd probably give the project a higher score if it wasn't for the Tame Impala cover which reminded me how good that was and made this seem **** in comparison. I would've really liked her to alter that song in some way because the tracks are identical so it kind of feels like she's tricking the listener. Like I said though great album, her voice still soars when she wants it to and she picked some great producers to back her up with a range of genres from Jazz to Pop to Dance. She's a very versatile singer and she showcases it here just as well as she has on previous efforts.

Rihanna stepped out into new territory with this album and I think it's strong. I was not expecting a big pop sound and I'm happy Four Five, BBHMM and Oxygen weren't added. Artists are meant to grow and Rihanna has done that. Loud is still my favorite album but, a few more listens and this may change my mind. Solid work!

i'm absolutely floored by this album.

i've always been a fan of rihanna, but more in the sense that i really enjoyed every one of her singles. i never really was the one to fully listen to her albums and when i did them i found some tracks to be fillers, but this album intrigued me. maybe it was the long wait for the album to come out, the missed deadlines, the changes in producers.

Work was released a few days ago and i wasn't very impressed. then the bomb dropped. i downloaded the album (courtesy of rihanna herself dropping the album for free) and as soon as consequence started i was hooked. first of all no "pop hits" or "bangers" and i was glad. it's not that i don't like songs like rude boy or pour it up but i wanted something new from rihanna. i wanted something new and adventurous. holy **** did she bring it. its experimental in sound, jumping from one genre to the next and it works. nothing is fast paced and loud. its an album that you play and just chill in your room and absorb the sounds.

the 3/4's of the album are definitely stronger than the last 1/4 but that doesn't take away from the last 1/4, they are good in their own way. rihanna definitely tried to "sing" more on this and for the most part she does a great job, with the exception of higher as it sounds like she is straining to get the notes out. i looked to my sister as we were listening to it and said "she's gonna have a hard time singing this live".

all in all a fantastic album and by far rihanna's best effort. i would love for her to continue on this path (although thats probably not likely).

After listening to this album from to start to finish it becomes quite clear that this is Rihanna's most mature, most sophisticated work to date. Gone are the high octane, dance-influenced beats and replaced with a more soulful production - a very welcome change.

From a production point of view the drum programming is top notch and the minimal production on this LP as a whole really provides a lot of breathing room for Rihanna's vocals to truly shine. The vocals are the star of the show here and that's where this album really hits the nail on the head.

Tracks on the album follow a very similar style and rhythm, forming a very cohesive body of work, but even then the LP manages to offer enough variation to keep things interesting. For example a track like 'Kiss It Better' is the closest one would get to one of Rihanna's older pop efforts, while 'Never Ending' is a beautiful acoustic ballad - really showcasing her phenomenal vocal work.

But just like most albums this one falls a bit flat at times. The lead single, 'Work' (a collaboration with Drake) is arguably one of the worst tracks on here purely because of it's chorus (if there even is one) lacking any real lyrical content or substance. The track "Woo" (composed alongside record producer, Travis Scott) includes a very repetitive guitar line and poorly composed beat which doesn't compliment Rihanna's vocals at all.

Overall, this is one of her best efforts yet. This is the first time I could genuinely appreciate Rihanna as an album artist and not just as an artist built off of hit singles. Definitely a step in the right direction in terms of songwriting.

Hands down her best vocal work to date and a very solid, well-produced album.

Personal favourites from the LP: 'Kiss It Better', 'Desperado' and 'Same Ol' Mistakes'

On Anti you can hear how she moves away from pop and towards a more reflective R&B sound – and there's a braveness to all of this as though, while she hasn't quite worked out who she wants to be as an artist; she's definitely worked out who she isn't.

Although I’d always really loved a good Rihanna song I never thought sing a song like Love on the Brain. Damn it’s great when an artist is still out to impress their fans and themselves this deep in the game.

An overall great album with just a few skips. However if this is her last album I’ll be extremely disappointed

A couple of listens into ANTI, you can actually hear that it's her most experimental and honnest work to date. The lyrics are good, and the production is just magnificent at some points: that guitar in "Kiss It Better", or that DJ Mustard beat in "Needed Me", let alone that "Same Ol' Mistakes" cover. Yet, there remains a lot of forgettable and filler dull tracks like "Desperado", "James Joint", and "Yeah, I Said It". Also, one major flaw is that she didn't make "Higher" longer, which would've been so great.
But all in all, a solid record.

Anti feels like an album that, compared to its predecessors, should be a surprising turn to something oddly and curiously good, and in many cases, yes, Anti generally is. But there are tracks here that feel that way only for the first minute or so, before falling into incomplete and slightly flat repetitively and lyrical contradiction. But - as said already, all isn't lost, this is interesting.

ANTi is a pretty good album. It's well constructed and infuses underground elements into mainstream music. But, although it's an innovative work if we look at the Rihanna's past albums, there's no real innovation here: the PBR&B, stoner and trippy trends here were used numerous times by other artists, with better results. The bottom of ANTi's creativity is the karaoke-like cover of Tame Impala's New Person Same Old Mistakes, from their last year album Currents: Rihanna just sings over the original song, leaving the production and even Parker's backing vocals intact, what seems lazy and unimaginative. Even with all the qualities that ANTi bears, there's one fundamental mistake: everything sounds good in Rihanna's voice and figure, but it could sound as good (or even better) in any other voice.

Honestly, Anti was never meant to have the runaway smash hits of Loud or Good Girl Gone Bad. While the roll out for this album was anything but smooth, everyone could tell that the music was going to be different this time around...and thankfully it was.

But overall, this is Rihanna's strongest and most cohesive work to date. She may not know exactly what she wants to say as an artist yet, but she is more than willing to step outside the box to get there.

with ANTI, Rihanna brings a new sound to her career. Songs that we would never picture her singing. My favorites are consideration, kiss it better and sex with me (deluxe edition). I have to say, this is definitely not an album I expected Rihanna to release, but I'm glad she did. Seriously, there's not a single I-V-vi-IV chord progression on here (which appeared on about half the songs on Taylor Swift's 1989, by the way). Anti may not have the immediate hits that Rihanna's other albums had, but it's a new musical direction, and it's certainly an intriguing one. There's a nice variety on this album, from trap to R&B to dream pop to soul, and even a bit of jazz in certain places. As eclectic as Anti is, Rihanna pulls it off surprisingly well, and for the most part it flows along nicely. There are definitely some weaker tracks here and there, but overall I really do applaud her for changing things up.

Standout tracks: Kiss It Better, Desperado, Same Ol' Mistakes, Never Ending

Caciones como Kiss it better o Love on the Brain salvan este LP.

Did definitely not wait for 4 years for an album like this. We deserved better and expected much more after her previous album and postponing her album alot. Single like Work??? It contains NOTHING musically or lyrically.
We deserved much better! Disappointed by Rihanna. Dont know what that delay was for. The ONLY good song from this record was Kiss It Better. I would have said

It's confusing, with flaky endings and mood swings, and an utterly compelling mix of not caring at all and desperately caring. [Apr 2016, p.87]
