The Last guardian is indeed suffering from some technical and control input issues, but its warm, beautiful adventure filled with countless touching moments is something we’ll never forget for the rest of our lives. The Last Guardian is not just a game, it’s an absolute work of art.
By the time the post-credits wrap, this long-delayed production will have earned a place in your heart of hearts, alongside its predecessors. [February 2016, p70]
Amazing game it's an absolute joy and i loved it, albeit it's controls and camera angles are irritating it happens to create an emotive story in spite of these flaws.
idc if the controls are janky as hell or that the stupid dog doesn't frickin listen to u half the time TRICO IS MY CHILD AND IF YOU TOUCH HIM I WILL KILL YOU
Whether or not you feel the mechanical issues will be enough to ruin this sweet, impeccably realised, emotive game is up to you. For me, they're annoying but ephemeral. There were a hundred games released this year that are more fluid and fun to play minute-to-minute, and dozens that perform with a silky smooth frame rate, yet I'll remember this adventure with Trico long after I've forgotten those.
Not quite up to the same standards of its predecessors, but this is still an emotionally draining and beautifully realised story of friendship against the odds.
Story wise and visually the game has a lot going for it, but mechanically there are some genuinely troubling areas. Everything works, but it is nowhere near as polished as it should be, and occasionally that lack of polish hurts the overall experience. The Last Guardian is going to be a memorable release; there’s no doubt about that. But its legacy won’t be quite what fans had hoped.
Outdated and flat gameplay mechanics, poor controls, technical issues. The Last Guardian couldn’t be saved even by the extreme efforts from Sony to finish the game no matter the time. As you will love Trico for sure, the game itself you will certainly not. [Issue #270]

Basically Ico with a dragon instead of a damsel in distress, The Last Guardian is a similarly beautiful looking exploration-based platform puzzle game with the monster-climbing apects of Shadow Of The Colossus thrown in.
Incredibly cumbersome controls/ AI/ boring gameplay make this game a frustrating mess, especially considering it's development took 7-9 years and was released in 2016 (a modern game like this is unacceptable imo). Definitely not worth it's asking price either, even on sale unless you're a huge Ueda fan. I would've given it a 6/10 but the ending was pretty satisfying tbh. Personally I think this is Ueda's worst game so far, Ico and Shadow of the colossus were more special but also surely had their own issues too.
A good intention that results in a flawed game. Its originality is undoubted, and that's its greatest pro. Sadly, there are little more.
It tries to make the gamer connect with the beast, but only manages to do so for short moments. Tricko's AI is way too bad, and the boy's control + camera positioning make it uncomfortable and unfair most of the times. Pity.
Truco is super well designed, beautiful and cute. But the control is awful most of the times. You get quite blocked many times and it’s not clear how to continue. Furthermore the game feels repetitive, the scenarios and the problems to solve.
SummaryIt’s an action adventure title. It’s a story about a young boy who has been kidnapped or captured under strange circumstances. It’s about an encounter between that boy and the mysterious beast Trico amidst ancient ruins, and a story about their journey together in the hope of escaping their mysterious predicament.
