Beneath all the trimmings and little things that this game does so well, and outside of the intense competitive nature that keeps driving me back again and again, Laser League does something even more important: it reminds you, like all my favourite games of yesteryear, that gaming is supposed to be fun.
This game accomplishes all its purposes and goals, and it does so excellently. It's super fast-paced, thrilling and exciting game. It's been ages since I had so much instant fun playing a game. A very simple set of rules that produce very complex, exciting and addictive results that even casual gamers can get instantly hooked to. Also, it has provided me *the BEST COUCH CO-OP I've had since the NES years* which, also reminds me of how much fun you could have then with games that were so simple yet so engaging. I'm not much ****, I've never subscribed to PS+ since I'm not that into it but, man, this games is so fun to play with people that it even made PAY for a PS+ sub just to keep playing it with actual human beings (it's just not the same against AI, is it?). I do encourage everyone to try it.
This fantastic future sport is easy to learn but difficult to put down, and the very agreeable price point makes this a title that you won't want to leave on the bench. Rocket League has a rival. [Issue#150, p.86]
This game lets us rediscover the pleasure of enjoying ourselves plunging into a lively competition, thanks to repetitive and easy techniques besides many different tactics, so as to keep us really concentrated, almost hypnotized. It will warm up the hearts of those who are longing to rediscover a local multiplayer gam, whose contents are undoubtedly beautiful.
Laser League is typically the kind of game which is enjoyable for a few minutes, before it reveals its own weakness: repetitivness, mostly due to a lack of depth. Which is sad, because its main idea is really cool.
Really great competitive and fun game with great potential.
It just need 3 things to be the next big game that everybody plays.
1- Continues support and free updates with more maps, player classes and modes.
2 - Online Co-op with 2 players on the same console competing with other players online
3- Nintendo Switch release with cross-play between Xbox, PC and the Switch.
To me a must-have game. Just wish the developers will continue to update and add to it.
Made a account to counter the needlessly bad reviews- This game is a absolutely compelling and unique multiplayer experience!!! It is refreshing to see something different multiplayer wise as innovation seems to be lacking, usually, in this category of gaming. Laser league nails the "easy to pick up, hard to master" of games like rocket league, with visuals reminiscent of Tron, and plenty of customization and unlockables. Disregard the 0 from "ColbyTurkey", the game runs perfectly. Give this game a shot, it is GREAT!
Laser League is a difficult game to describe but it’s basically an online multiplayer game in which players, or teams, run around an arena attempting to activate nodes that project a wall of light of their colour. These walls vary in size and in the way they move and if a player is hit by a wall of the opposite teams colour they're eliminated (although they can be revived by team mates). The last team standing wins.
Despite that complicated sounding explanation the game is actually pretty simple in practice and it’s easy to pick up the game and get straight into the online action. At first Laser League is a fairly enjoyable experience but even after just an hour or so my interest began to wane. I've seen comparisons being drawn to the hugely successful Rocket League, a game that also first came to the public's attention as a PS+ offering, but whereas Psyonix title gradually revealed hidden depths I feel as though I've already seen everything this game has to offer.
I don't think they'll be many people still playing this in a few months’ time...
Currently in a broken state and the developers have bailed, unless the developers make a magical return and work it into a playable state, i'd recommend avoiding it.
SummaryBlink and you are dead! LASER LEAGUE is the new last-word in high-speed, future-sports team action. Battle against the opposition for control of nodes that bathe the arena in deadly light. Evade rival coloured beams, and fry your opponents with speed, strength and strategy.
