Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake pushes away all the technical limits of the original game while staying extremely loyal to its core, and presents the perfect remake for both fans and new players.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake takes the presentation and soundtrack of a real classic to a contemporary level and also optimizes controls and enemy behavior. The 2-player co-op mode is a nice addition which, strictly speaking, already existed in the 2019 Switch version. If you already know the latter or have already played through the original, you are paying primarily for a nice technology upgrade. However, if you never experienced the original, the remake is undoubtedly your best option at the moment.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake is an extraordinary experience that blends emotional narrative with innovative gameplay. The story follows two brothers on an epic journey to save their father, told through wordless yet meaningful storytelling. Simultaneous control of the two brothers offers a unique perspective and creates an emotional bond with the characters. The enchanting world and challenging puzzles make this game a masterpiece, conveyed with simplicity and depth through interaction and exploration. Highly recommended for those seeking an engaging and touching gaming experience. The new graphics do justice to the original project, captivating from the very beginning.
Its always hard to rate a remake, do you judge them on their own, or compared to the original? On its own, its an indie game that deserves a 10/10. It looks great, but its the story and interaction between the two brothers that carry it. There are funny moments, playful moments, and equaly dark, sombre and bittersweet moments. The platforming and puzzles are straightforward, but its all about the experience. As a remake, 8/10. I was hesitant about the graphics style prior to playing, but, there is no denying it looks amazing (especially water scenes, and the valley of blood). I do think perhaps it lacks some of the charm and poignancy of the original but that may just be my thinking fondly of the original. There isn't anything new for people who played the game before, the puzzles are the same, the story is the same, but it does look amazing. I think the updated graphics certainly make it worth a play, and the addition of co-op mode adds it to the quite short list of must-play coach co-ops. (and it has a bonus video of directors commentary on the original game which was really interesting). If I had one gripe about the remake, its that there was a missed opportunity with haptics on the PS5 which were not utilised, or even motion control for the flight scenes etc.
The original Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is one of the greatest indie games of all time. With its poignant story, varied gameplay and unique mechanics, it is truly a special title. The Remake perfectly captures these aspects and faithfully modernizes the aesthetics. Although the core experience is preserved, there aren’t enough improvements or extras to encourage returning players, however, it is a must for anyone who missed the initial release.
Playing the original, which still holds up well, with today's graphic standards probably didn't even occur to many of us, but it felt nice to be reunited with the brothers.
Brothers isn't perfect. Its blend of serious tone and incomprehensible delivery doesn't fully work, and its characters (especially a female character introduced late in the game) are more archetypes than believable people. However, the remake's improved presentation of the original's unique gameplay make it well worth experiencing. Even if, like me, you're a decade late to the party.
With almost 0 changes in gameplay and structure, Brothers' remake manages to offer a greater spectacle thanks to Unreal Engine 5, although it's not without technical problems at launch, as a remarkable stuttering and clipping, at least on PS5. If you played it back in the day you will find little new, and the extras and new features are a bit lazy.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake feels like a missed opportunity to build on the unique concept of the original game. It could have been expanded with new scenes and situations to provide fresh new challenges and keep players on their toes. Given the success of A Way Out and It Takes Two, more work could have been done to make its co-op mode much more intuitive and enticing, too. As it is, it’s successful in beautifying the original game but nothing more, unfortunately.
My conclusion on the remake of "Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons" for the current generation of consoles is really good. The game's story is still worth seeing and hearing. The developers from Avantgarden impress with a special story and the mixture of many emotions and a powerful environment. It doesn't matter that the characters only speak a little, but the way in which a story can be told. The mood is set by many decisions and emotional situations and an excellent soundtrack. There is also a control concept in the game that takes some time to get used to. But then you experience a good mix of controlling the two brothers in the game. As a bonus, a local co-op mode has been added to the classic single-player experience, allowing two players to control one of the brothers.
This game is so fxxking short and only took me 2 hours to finish. It's really not worth spending HKD148 for this game. The graphics are also not that good and it takes two have better graphics . This game is just horrible and the whole story plot and ending is just so bad that even lying on the floor for 2 hours I'd better. I don't know what others think but it's definitely not worth and don't you dare try this garbage game. Remake is better graphics but it's actually still not too good bruh. IN CONCLUSION, THIS GAME ****
This remake is a steaming pile of garbage. I can't believe this piece of garbage was an internet darling back in 2013. Luckily there were higher quality games that were received better by critics and nerds that year, otherwise this stupid artsy fartsy game could've had a huge influence on the gaming industry. The gameplay is boring and repetitive. The puzzles are awful. The cutscenes are cringeworthy. The campaign is under 3 hours. Remember when toy-colleting millennials roasted COD Ghosts for the 4 hour campaign, how did this get a pass? Sure this game was cheaper but it only has 1/3 of the modes Ghosts had, so it's a fair comparison. Ghosts had a campaign alongside PvP and exclusive co-op content, which brings me to my next point. ● The multiplayer is complete trash. It is the laziest form of multiplayer imaginable and that is co-op for the campaign only. Why can't they give me exclusive content for the co-op? Oh that's right because they are too cheap and lazy for that. These cheapskates didn't even include an online option, only local co-op. The original should've had a co-op option right from the start. It annoys me when a game has a companion with you throughout the entire campaign, yet there isn't a single co-op option, all because these developers are too greedy and lazy for multiplayer. The greedy developers locked the co-op behind a $20 paywall when they could've just added it through an update for the original. I don't recommend this game at all. ● P.S. The review is for A Tale of Two Sons Remake, why does it say South Park? Fix your site Metacritic.
